Great year by the Jacksonville teams in States. Three teams go the the Final 4. Here is my final DD fo the season. I hope we can get more area teams to participate next year from the immediate area.
1). Mandarin (24-2-2) – Lost to Boca 2-0 in Sate Semi Finals. This is not a Homer pick, they are my number 1 team because they have earned it. Now the question is: can Cooley reload next year and make another run? He loses a lot of Seniors. Bad things happen the year after that happens.
2). Fleming Island (19-0-3) – Lost to Tallahssee Chiles in PKs. Young team that will be a front runner next year.
3). Providence – (19-2-1) Lost to Orangewood Christian. They are young as well and should be right there again next year.
4). Fletcher (19-5-1) – They lost 3 times to Mandarin, once to Providence and once to Tallahassee Lincoln (Final four team in 5A). All quality teams. On any given day, they can beat any of the top teams. They lose a lot of seniors as well
5) Episcopal (16-6-2) - My pre season prediction was right. Episcopal takes District title from Bolles. They lost to Bishop Verot in Sate semi finals. Can they keep the District title? Not if Bolles(oh yeah and Fernandina) has any say in that matter.
6). Columbia Lake City (20-6-1) - Lost in State quarterfinals to Tallhassee Lincoln. This team had a good year. They need to continue to play more Jacksonville area teams to keep their status in the DD.
7). Stanton – They make it to the 4a finals with a liltte help from O'Farrell but lost on a PK in the finals to Mitchell. Great run for Stanton only to fall short.
8). Bolles (11-5-4) – Lost to Episcopal in Regional finals 3-2. This is another young team that will be better next year and the one after that. And who knows what new surprise players will join the Bulldogs next year
9). Nease (10-11) Victims of the Stanton PK streak.
10). BK - Lost to Nease in double OT.
11). Ponte Vedra - I was a year early on this team. Their year should be next year, promise.
12. Mantanzas - Only for this year. If they don't start recording their results, I'm leaving them out next year. I may need to reconsider the geographic boundaries again.
The rest:
Wolfson
Ridgeview
Menendez

Here is my new DD. The next one will be posted after this week's scores and the a final one after the playoffs. Good luck to all. I can't believe the season is already coming to an end!
1). Providence – (16-0-1) I'm putting them as number one as they have not been beaten plus they beat Fletcher. Beat Bishop Snyder 6-0, Trinity Christian 6-0, Lakeland Christian 3-2, SJCD 3-0, Montverde Academy 2-0 and tied Chiles 1-1
2). Fleming Island (14-0-2) – I'm going to keep them as #2 as they have not lost yet although I think #3 and #4 are better teams. So let them (#3 and #4) beat up on each other and FI stays #2. I don't think they (FI) wanted to come across the river to play Mandarin or Fletcher this year. Beat Bartram Trail 4-0, Lee 9-1 and Tied Buchholz 2-2, Tied Wolfson 1-1 and beat Orange Park 4-0. Beat Creekside 6-0 Menendez 4-2, Palatka 8-0 and Columbia 2-0
3). Fletcher (15-3-1) – Won the Gateway Championship by beating Lee 8-0, Wolfson 2-0 and Mandarin 3-1. Congratulations! Beat Paxon 8-1.

10). Fernandina (7-5-2) - Why not. This team started off slow but beat Stanton 2-0 Orange Park. Finishes season against Wolfson. Maybe be this team is gearing up for an upset in Districts? Look out Bolles and Episcopal.

12). Stanton (7-6-1) – They drop to the bottom of the DD after their loss to Fernandina. This team has been somewhat disappointing. Lost to Fernandina 2-0 and don't have results of their games against Clay and Chiles.

In Thanksgiving tournament they beat Keystone 4-0 and lost to Providence and Lincoln 2-1 then beat Orange Park 7-0 and won a forfeit to First Coast 1-0 and do not have a result against Sandalwood although I assume that they won. Any of the top six teams could be #1 if they go on a roll and I think Fletcher is ready. Play Mandarin and Orange Park next week to complete district play.
6) Episcopal (5-2-1) - They did lose to Chiles 1-0 and Lincoln 2-0 2 weeks ago. They beat BK 5-2 and Creekside 7-1 and tied Stanton 0-0, Beat Bishop Snyder 4-0 and Bishop Moore game was cancelled. They don't play again until next week against Bolles.

Their early schedule hasn't been much of a test but we'll see what they're made of when the opponents become tougher. I think they will be up for the challenge. Open up against Clay in Thanksgiving tournament.
7). (LW: #8) Ridgeview (4-0-0) - Beat Middleurg 3-0, Interlachen 4-1, Lee 5-3 and Clay 3-0. Not the toughest of schedules so far but we'll see how they do. I hear that they have a new coach that is pretty good.
8). (LW: #6) Nease (3-2-0) – Beat Creekside 3-0, Clay 2-0, Lost to Episcopal 4-0, Lost to Chiles 2-1 and beat Ponte Vedra 3-2. After 3 straight years in the State championship game they drop to 8th on my DD. I don't think they will be down here for long. They don't play until the week of December 1st against Menendez, St. Augustine and Mantanzas
9). (LW: #9) Stanton – Beat Terry Parker 2-0 and Englewood 4-0. Bolles game was cancelled. Play Fletcher and open up against Englewood in Thanksgiving tournament this week.
10). (LW: #10) Bartram – Lost 4-2 to Mandarin, Beat Ponte Vedra 1-0 Creekside. Play Fernandina and Ponte Vedra next week
11). (LW: #11) Ponte Vedra – I think this team should be here but don't have their record, schedule etc. Can someone help otherwise they get taken off the DD not matter how good they are.
12). Wolfson (4-0-0) - Beat Ed White 8-0, Paxson 8-0, SJCD 4-1 and Lee 8-0. They haven't played much of a schedule yet but they are unbeaten going into the Thanksgiving tournament which they open up against Mandarin. They're schedule gets tougher as they get deeper into the season.
Look Out for: Menendez - What does this team have this year? They play Bolles this week.

1). (last week: #1) Bolles (2-0-0) – Beat Yulee 8-0, Columbia 5-2 and cancelled game with Stanton. They have cancelled a couple of games already according to eurosport. Whats up with that? Barely holding onto the Commander's #1 spot They play Menendez this week. Anyone know anything about Menendez?
2). (LW: #3) Mandarin (5-0-0) – Beat Bartram 4-2, BK 5-0, OP 4-0, Fletcher 3-0 and Mandarin Christian 5-0. They move a notch up to number 2 this week. They get a good win against Fletcher for the first of maybe a few meetings those teams will have this year. Play Paxon and First Coast next week and open against Wolfson in Thanksgiving tournament
3). (LW: #2) Fleming Island (4-0-0) – Beat BK 3-0, Chiles 2-1, OP 4-0 and Gainesville 1-0. They move to 3rd despite winning all their games. They are off to a fast start. Play Middleburg and Ed White this week.
4) (LW: #5) Episcopal (4-2-0) - They jump to 4th over Fletcher this week. Beat Yulee 7-0, Nease 4-0 Menendez 2-0. I believe they lost to Chiles and Lincoln. If anyone knows please verify. Play BK and Creekside this week
5). (LW: #4) Fletcher (4-1-0) – Beat First Coast 11-0, Fernandina 2-0, Terry Parker 6-0, Sandalwood 5-1 and lost to Mandarin 3-0. The rematch with Mandarin will be December 8th. Play Stanton and open up against Keystone in Thanksgiving tournament this week.

Commander's Dirty Dozen (Top 12) Boys teams for NE Florida - as of 11/6/09
Here is my pre-season rankings based on last year’s results, this year’s returnees and any other bit of information I can get on the area teams. If I miss any teams in the NE Florida area that want to be included, let me know Also, don’t forget to update your schedules at http://www.eurosportscoreboard.com/
Ok now the rankings……….
1). Bolles – Gotta go with the State Champs who return a lot of key players with some key additions transferred in and some talented incoming freshmen.
2). Fleming Island – Frank and the boys will continue the legacy of FI soccer. Tough, skilled and hard nosed. I look for this team to win their district and beyond.
3). Mandarin – This team returns an experienced team loaded with Seniors from a team that went far into the playoffs last year. Look for the Vega brothers and company to pick up where they left off last year.
4). Fletcher – Same as Mandarin. They return a lot of Seniors and experience. Look for Tony K to make a strong comeback this year and challenge Mandarin in their District. Look for 3-4 hard fought battles between those two teams this year.
5) Episcopal - They have the talent and are well coached. They will challenge Bolles in the District. In fact, you heard it here, they will upset Bolles to win the District
6). Nease – After 3 straight years in the State championship game I look for Ponte Vedra and Creekside to challenge them. Nease is rebuilding and only time will tell the impacts.
7). Providence – This team should mature more this year and continue to develop. Talented team that should challenge for supremacy in their district.
8). Ridgeview- I am going to give this team some pre-season love. Urbano will lead them again? They made a strong finish last year.
9). Stanton – Made a good run last year but fell short. They should have a good nucleus of returning players led by their tall mid fielder.
10). Bartram – They deserve to be here based on their showing from last year. Let’s see if they can build on last season’s success We will see how long they can stay in the DD.
11). Ponte Vedra – This team will surprise…I think. They were young and scrappy last year with no Seniors and they competed. Look for them to take over where Nease left off.
12).BK – Once a mainstay in the top 5 in the area, they have gone through 4 coaches in 4 years. Maybe this will be their year to get back to area dominance. They have a good base of talent returning. With some good coaching this could be their return
Look Out for:.Wolfson - The had somewhat of a rebuilding year last year but stayed competitive. Look for WPCoach to bring this team back in contention for the Gateway. They are in a very tough district this year and will contend there as well.

Notice to all visitors of DownSouthRankings.com
To all my loyal visitors and those new to this site, I wanted to take a moment to let you know the latest news regarding DownSouthRankings.com.
This is my fifth year uniting the High School soccer community in the State of Florida by offering an unbiased state ranking for all 950 boys and girls HS soccer teams. Each year the site has grown and has seen its reach expand further throughout the state including credit given in many newspapers around Florida. This site has become much bigger than I expected and am very proud of the success it has enjoyed.
It is with this excitement that I tried to do it all again for another year. Unfortunately, with the increased responsibilities in my real world (full-time) profession and life, I am unable to devote the time necessary to have this site offer what I expect of it. I just cannot put a half-effort into this project. Therefore, I must discontinue the state rankings service from the DownSouthRankings.com website.
I will leave the site up and running for score postings and message board discussions. At a later date, I may try to incorporate another feature to the website.
Thanks to all who have helped out over the years with scores and good message board material....as well as all the emails.
Take care,
DownSouth
